Jessica Greene Presents Plan for Advancing Native Landscaping at City of Oxford 11/1/2022 7:30 PM
Oxford City Council heard a presentation from Assistant City Manager Jessica Greene on how the City might advance native landscaping policy and education in response to prior council discussion of the “Managed Natural Lawn Ordinance”. This ordinance was tabled by council in October for re-assessment. Watch video of presentation here.
48th Hefner Lecture: The Arbornaut 11/3/2022 7:30 PM
The Hefner Museum of Natural History invites you to join us for an all-ages evening with "CanopyMeg" Lowman—famous tree climber, scientist, and author of The Arbornaut - A Life Exploring the 8th Continent in the Trees Above Us. The lecture will take place November 3, 7:30 pm, in person at Laws Hall, room 100 (parking directions here, google map here) and streaming on the Hefner Museum’s YouTube channel. There will be a reception and book signing following the lecture at the Hefner Museum, 100 Upham Hall. Dr. Lowman is a global pioneer in forest canopy ecology. Her mission is to explore, research, and conserve global forests, mentor the next generation—especially women and minorities—in sustainability and forest stewardship, and educate diverse audiences through storytelling.
Pumpkin Chunkin' Pumpkin Composting Event 11/11/2022 5:00 PM
Make sure those pumpkins make it into the compost! Organic waste creates scary amounts of methane when left to rot in the landfill... get your pumpkins into the City's food scrap composting program. This event will feature a trebuchet pumpkin launcher from THS Physics class, and a BBQ food truck. You can also compost your pumpkins at the City's Food Scrap collection site at 945 S. Main St. Oxford, Ohio 45056. Event will take place at the Tri: 6025 Fairfield Road
Nature hike with Dick Munson 11/6/2022 1:00 PM
Kids and families are invited to join naturalist Dick Munson on an Oxford Presbyterian Church-organized outing starting from the Nature Center at Hueston Woods. this fall on Sunday, November 6th. Many may find it frustrating that our current representative to US Congress continues to respond to constituent concerns about the climate crisis with letters denying climate science. Vote for people who will better represent us in this critical time for our biosphere. Help your friends who might need childcare support or transportation support to get to the polls. Friends don't let friends be non-voters. Check out this nice Letter to the Editor from a CCL member in Wooster, Ohio who writes about the importance of researching climate protective candidates.

Audubon Miami Valley Field Trip to Forest Run Metropark 11/13/2022 9:00 AM
This scenic preserve includes creeks, woodlands, prairie, meadow and wetland habitats that support a variety of resident and migratory wildlife. A raised observation deck offers views of the prairie while trails meander through the woods, meadows, creeks and wetlands. Joe Dumyahn, Environmental Projects Coordinator for MetroParks of Butler County will be our guide for this outing.
If you would like to follow our trip leaders as they drive from Oxford, meet at the TJ Maxx parking lot located at 550 South Locust Street in Oxford at 8:30 am. If traveling directly, the destination address is 1810 New London Rd., Hamilton, OH 45013. Please arrive at 9:00 am. Travel time from Oxford is approximately 30 minutes. A Draft Version of the City of Oxford's new Comprehensive Plan is now available. This plan will guide future growth in the City, and your input on it is important! Volunteer for Thread-Up Oxford!
Thread Up Oxford volunteers are working hard to get the shop and warehouse ready for a grand opening! They still need more volunteers to help with a wide variety of tasks: sorting textiles, organizing, keeping retail space neat, helping customers find things, organizing creative reuse materials such as sewing and craft fabrics and yarns, and cleaning.
